# The benefits of AI without the compliance headaches

On-premises AI for businesses

With the IOWIS Platform, your employees can use AI for text, documents and internal knowledge without passing sensitive company data to external AI providers.

FOR EVERYDAY WORK

### Use AI for text, documents and internal knowledge

DATA UNDER YOUR CONTROL

### Sensitive company data stays within your own environment

QUICK TO SET UP

### Platform, hardware and implementation from a single provider

## When AI works with company data, infrastructure matters

Employees now use AI for general questions and rough drafts as well as documents, research, analysis and internal information.

Alongside the question of which model produces the best results, companies need to know where their data is processed, which systems can access it and what external connections exist.

Publicly reported incidents show that confidential information can be exposed through security vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, excessive permissions or the uncontrolled use of external AI services.

These incidents show that data leakage and unauthorised access occur in practice. Anyone using AI with internal information needs to make deliberate decisions about the underlying infrastructure and the resulting data flows.

## Run AI in your own infrastructure

![A user, server and knowledge folder within the company's infrastructure; an approval switch connects the server to an external system.](https://iowis.com/media/iowis-eigene-infrastruktur-en.png)

In a fully on-premises deployment, the IOWIS Platform runs within your company on hardware selected for your requirements. Language models and core AI processing run within this infrastructure, which you control. Company content is not sent to external AI providers for processing.

The platform’s core functionality works without a continuous internet connection. External connections are set up only for features that need them, such as web search or an integration with an external system.

Your company determines which connections to allow and when to introduce new software or model versions. This control over data and operation is an important part of [sovereign AI](https://iowis.com/en/sovereign-ai).

[How on-premises AI works](https://iowis.com/en/on-premises-ai)

## A shared AI environment for your company

![Assistants, a knowledge folder with documents and tools are arranged on a shared surface representing the IOWIS Platform.](https://iowis.com/media/iowis-plattform-kompakt-en.png)

Through a single interface, the IOWIS Platform gives employees access to AI assistants, document processing, company knowledge and other features enabled for them.

They can write and edit text, analyse documents, organise information or use assistants configured for specific tasks and departments. Internal documents and knowledge sources can be used as the basis for answers.

Administrators determine who can use the platform and which knowledge resources, assistants, tools and integrations are available. Access to AI can be tailored to teams, tasks and responsibilities within the company.

You can find detailed information about features, plans and pricing on the platform page.

[View platform features and plans](https://iowis.com/en/platform)

## Make company knowledge accessible with AI

![A question leads to authorised documents A, B and C. The resulting answer includes references to sources A and C.](https://iowis.com/media/iowis-unternehmenswissen-quellen-en.png)

With the IOWIS Platform, you can make internal documents and other knowledge sources available for use with AI.

Employees ask questions and receive answers based on content they are authorised to access. This makes existing knowledge easier to find. Existing access permissions continue to apply.

## On-premises AI in practice

CUSTOMER STORY

![Reception area displaying the beatmet24 logo.](https://iowis.com/media/Beatmet24_buero-eingang_header.jpg)

Photo: beatmet24 GmbH

Specialist home nursing provider beatmet24 uses the IOWIS on-premises AI platform to ease the workload for around 300 nursing staff, along with office and administrative teams, by helping them resolve recurring internal questions.

Nursing staff working away from the office can also access internal knowledge sources they are authorised to use. AI processing and work with these knowledge sources take place on beatmet24’s own infrastructure. Sensitive internal documents can therefore be used while remaining within the company’s controlled environment. A fine-grained permissions model ensures that employees can only access information made available to them.

## How we at IOWIS view AI

![The IOWIS team sits together at a table working on a laptop.](https://iowis.com/media/TeamTable1_be.jpg)

When you integrate software into core business processes, you also place your trust in the company behind it. That makes the principles guiding a provider’s decisions important.

For us, an AI application is not a good solution simply because it reduces the workload. If confidential information is inadequately protected or it is unclear how that information is processed, the application also creates risks for the company. As a provider, we are responsible for taking these risks into account during development and operation.

## AI consulting and implementation

We support businesses in selecting and setting up language models to run locally, using internal knowledge sources and automating workflows. This includes technical planning and integration with existing systems. These services are also available without the IOWIS Platform.

## Frequently asked questions about IOWIS and on-premises AI

- ### How does the IOWIS Platform differ from a standard AI chat?

The IOWIS Platform combines a chat interface with AI assistants, agents, document processing, company knowledge, workspaces and integrations in one environment.

Administrators manage users, permissions, knowledge resources and available features centrally. In a fully on-premises deployment, the language models and core AI processing run on hardware within your infrastructure.

- ### Can the platform run entirely without an internet connection?

Yes. In a fully on-premises deployment, the IOWIS Platform’s core features and locally deployed language models can run without an internet connection. A fully isolated, air-gapped environment disconnected from the internet is also possible.

The platform does not need to connect regularly to IOWIS for licence checks, account management or telemetry. In a fully isolated environment, however, only features that do not need an external connection can be used. Web search, external data sources and connected online services each require a connection to be set up explicitly.

- ### Is AI running on-premises automatically GDPR-compliant?

No, not automatically. The IOWIS Platform does, however, provide core technical foundations for GDPR-compliant use.

In a fully on-premises deployment, language models and core AI processing run within your environment. Company content is not sent to external AI providers for processing. Access permissions, retention periods, deletion schedules, logging and external connections can be controlled and configured to suit the use case.

Whether a particular use case complies with the GDPR also depends on which data is processed, for what purpose and on what legal basis.

- ### Are documents and inputs used to train the AI?

No. Documents in knowledge bases, user inputs and generated answers are not used to train or fine-tune the language models in use.

Instead, documents are processed and indexed for retrieval. When a request is made, the platform finds relevant content in the knowledge resources the user is authorised to access and supplies it to the language model for that answer.
